Omnisphere 2 at its base includes both digital oscillators - wavetables and samples (a huge collecion of them actually - named soundsources). We could also import our own samples.
It allows to create interesting stuff with FM synthesis and a waveshaper device it has.
One of my favorite features of Omnisphere is the ring modulation it offers. Ring modulation is an interesting synthesis technique because it allows for complex sounds to be created with simple oscillators by altering timbres and frequencies combining 2 Oscillators. This result on new rich harmonic sound.
Also at its core we could add more voices to the oscillators with the unison or harmonia tools plus its advanced Granular synthesis device. We can combine up to 4 layers to create a patch. Within each layer we could use only one of unison, harmonia or granular - although we can use them simultaneously in different layers.
It offers numerous modulation sources like LFO's, Envelopes, Alternate, Random etc Finally it has a collection of great sounding effect for the last touch in the patch before the sound travels out in our ears.
One of the most innovative features is the ORB section which manipulates different aspects of the sound and give movement. Finally we have an advanced ARPeggiator.
Its sound is phenomenal and it has literally unlimited possibilities for design new fresh never heard before stuff.
